At the Infection Control Equipment Standards Forum: Hospitals Urged to Prioritize Infection Control Equipment Tenfold Over Diagnostic Devices

June 8, 2025 – Experts at a specialized Iran Health Exhibition session highlighted that hospitals must place ten times more emphasis on infection control equipment compared to diagnostic devices. They warned that while infection control technologies can save thousands of lives, this critical area remains underprioritized because it does not generate direct revenue for hospitals.

The session addressed standards for surgical, dental, and ophthalmic instrument washers and disinfectors, automatic endoscope reprocessors, and innovative systems for human waste disposal—such as replacing single-use paper containers with stainless steel alternatives.

Experts emphasized that infection control equipment is often overlooked due to its cost and lack of profitability, leading hospitals to favor revenue-generating diagnostic devices. This tendency increases the risk of hospital-acquired infections. Hospitals were urged to fundamentally shift their approach, making infection control a top priority to effectively curb and reduce infections.

While some progress has been made, including awareness workshops and training courses, participants noted that achieving global standards requires sustained effort and time.

The 26th Iran Health Exhibition, featuring 580 domestic and international companies, 11 exhibition halls, 45 specialized sessions, and an Exclusive Pavilion for returning Iranian professionals, is being held at the Iran International Exhibition Center from June 8 to 11, 2025.
